What is carpool?
Carpooling is an arrangement whereby you share your rides with several participants in the same vehicle. Your participants and you may take turns to be the driver or have a designated driver and share the cost of the rides. In certain carpooling arrangement, the designated driver may normally accept a certain amount of fare to cover the expenses of the rides.

Different ways to carpool
Carpooling can be arranged in several ways depending on the preference of the carpool participants. Below are a two most common ways to carpool:

Alternating driver carpool
This is the simplest way to carpool where the expenses of rides and responsibilities to drive are equally shared. Carpool participants take turns in driving. Responsibility to drive may alternate on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You only bear the expenses of the travel when you are driving; when riding, it's free.

Designated driver carpool
This type of carpool has only one driver with one or more passengers. The designated driver would provide the vehicle and accept a certain amount of daily, weekly or monthly fare from the rest of the passengers. Otherwise, the total expenses of rides per day, week or month are shared equally among the carpool participants. The expenses of rides may include fuel, toll fee, parking, and vehicle maintenance.
